POSITION TITLE: Transportation Coordinator
REPORTS TO: Chief Operating Officer
COORDINATES WITH: Chief Operating Officer, Principals and Assistant Principals; Special Education Administrators; Athletic Administrators; Student Activity Coordinators
WORK YEAR: Full Year, Full-Time, 12 months
OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Coordinator of Transportation is responsible for managing the safe and efficient transportation of students from public schools and approved private schools in Nashua, from preschool age through
Grade 12.
Leadership:
Provides leadership for the Transportation Department to develop regular and special education bus routes, taking into account safety, efficiency, and bus capacity, and establish bus stops and assign individual students to those stops, taking into account safety, efficiency, and the age of students.
Management:
1. Responds to parent concerns about transportation services, and requests for changes in bus stops or bus routes. Structures and oversees the process for selling bus tickets to students.
2. Assistance in managing the district’s contract for transportation services and holds the contract provider accountable for providing services as defined by the service contract. Assures the timely communication of information between the District Transportation Office and the contract provider.
3. Maintains the transportation software package and database, utilizing software tools to generate efficient routes and assure accuracy of student information.
4. Ensures the transportation program meets federal, state and local regulatory requirements; remains knowledgeable about federal and state transportation standards.
Communication and Collaboration:
1. Works closely with special education staff and parents to provide a flexible transportation system for students requiring special transportation arrangements; works with school administrators to meet special student transportation needs under the ESL program, McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act, Section 504, or as otherwise required.
2. Coordinates the response to transportation emergencies, providing assistance and follow up to parents and school staff, and communicating accident details to the Superintendent and Chief Operating Officer.
3. Supports principals, assistant principals and bus drivers in addressing student disciplinary concerns; investigates, documents, and takes appropriate action in response to complaints regarding bus drivers or monitor behavior.
4. Oversees coordination of District field trips and athletic trips.
5. Reviews and approves invoices from the transportation contract provider. Prepares cost share invoices on a quarterly basis to other school districts.
6. Provides information as required to bill for services under Medicaid and No Child Left Behind.
7. Performs other duties as assigned by the Chief Operating Officer or Superintendent.
Qualifications:
- Degree or equivalent work experience related to transportation, business, education, technology or related field.
- Experience in Tyler Technology software or other transportation software is preferred but not required.
- Excellent oral, written, and organizational skills are essential.
- Must have a customer service focus and be a results-oriented self starter.
- Knowledge of the geographical layout of the City of Nashua is preferred.
