Tumor Registrar identifies, registers, and maintains records of all cancer patients using tumor registry systems and software. Prepares abstracts and performs coding of clinical patient data related to cancer. Being a Tumor Registrar performs data analysis and provides reports used by researchers, physicians, institutions, and patients. Adheres to all coding and privacy policies, guidelines, and regulations. Additionally, Tumor Registrar may require an associate degree or equivalent. Requires Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) credential. May require Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Tumor Registrar works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job. SUMMARY:
Obtains
all necessary demographic and insurance information required from patients, and
otherwise ensures that all patients registered in the hospital are done so in
an accurate and timely manner. Completes
all necessary paperwork and obtains signatures necessary to complete the
registration process. Calculates and
collects uninsured patients deposits for diagnostic services; collects ER
copays; collects deductibles from patients who are admitted; and collects
patients portion as indicated by the Financial Counselor for scheduled
services. Informs patients of hospital
financial obligations on older accounts and collects upon these past accounts. Communicates in a customer-friendly, professional
manner to assist our patients, visitors and other customers. Must be willing to work in any aspect of the
registration process including pre-registration, Emergency Room, front lobby
registrations on either the main and north campus, or insurance
verification. May operate the telephone
switchboard during breaks and after hours.
Performs other work assigned during evening and slower periods of
scheduled hours. Assists with quality assurance reviews and participates in
performance improvement activities. Help out all co-workers as needed.
WORK HOURS: Varies
since the registration department is staffed twenty-four hours a day, seven
days a week, 365 days a year, and all employees are required to work some
weekends and holidays, regardless of any established work schedules.

Education:
High school graduate or equivalent Licensure/Certification: N/A Training and Experience: On the job training preferred experience in
a physicians office or hospital setting. Medical terminology course preferred.
