Ultrasound Technologist operates ultrasonic equipment to produce images of the body's organs and tissues for diagnostic purposes. Performs sonographic examinations to locate, evaluate and record critical functional, pathological, and anatomical data. Being an Ultrasound Technologist records test results, inspects and maintains equipment, and orders supplies when needed. May require an associate degree in a related area. Additionally, Ultrasound Technologist typically requires completion of an accredited program in Medical Sonography. May require registration with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) and/or certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). May require a state license to practice. Typically reports to a chief technologist or manager. The Ultrasound Technologist occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Sonographer Requirements:
A current primary certification and registration as a Sonographer from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (S-ARRT)
A current certification and registration as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer as determined by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS-ARDMS).
Possess experience as a diagnostic ultrasound technologist of at least 24 continuous months within the preceding 36 months, to include experience with digital imaging.
Possess American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or American Registry for Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) approved continuing medical education of at least 12 hours within the last 12 months.
