Ultrasound Technologist operates ultrasonic equipment to produce images of the body's organs and tissues for diagnostic purposes. Performs sonographic examinations to locate, evaluate and record critical functional, pathological, and anatomical data. Being an Ultrasound Technologist records test results, inspects and maintains equipment, and orders supplies when needed. May require an associate degree in a related area. Additionally, Ultrasound Technologist typically requires completion of an accredited program in Medical Sonography. May require registration with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) and/or certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). May require a state license to practice. Typically reports to a chief technologist or manager. The Ultrasound Technologist occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Ultrasound Technologist must possess a good working knowledge and professional imaging skills to assure quality management of all patients. The responsibilities include but are not limited to quality control, ultrasound safety and compliance with the Joint Commission standards. The position requires competency in the performance of all routine ultrasound examinations for all patient populations to include: neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adult, and geriatric.
