    Job Description:
    The Ascent Part-Time Contract Underwriter is responsible for the timely and accurate pipeline management of new loan application requests in a paperless environment. The Underwriter will need to review credit reports and income documentation as part of the student loan application.  The Underwriter will work closely with Customer Service and Processing to ensure the accurate and timely underwriting of Ascent Student Loans.  Furthermore, this position requires effective communication of Ascent policy and procedural information via multiple communication channels to and from internal and external parties.

    We are looking for Underwriter (Part-time, Contract) to join our team in the heart of downtown San Diego, CA working a hybrid/remote schedule. This position is requiring a minimum of 16 hours per week, which can include nights/weekends as we are flexible to work around your schedule.

    Responsibilities:
    • Be the first point of contact for income scenarios and income documentation questions.
    • Verifies the accuracy of income documents and credit reports.
    • Calculates monthly income and debt-to-income ratios.
    • Interacts proficiently with applicants and team members.
    • Identify red flags within documentation.
    • Answer escalations emails, calls and inquires as it relates to income and credit scenarios.
    • Collaborate on processes with multiple departments.

    Minimum Requirements:
    • Minimum 4 years in mortgage processing, mortgage modification, student loan underwriting
    • Experience working with income documents and income calculations.
    • Must be able to review and interpret credit reports on a tradeline basis.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to articulate outstanding conditions and escalations with external applicants.
