    Work Environment

    The Underwriting Trainee position is a hybrid-eligible role out of our Roseville, CA, Monterey, CA, or Reno, NV offices. This position is available mid-May, 2024.

    Job Overview:

    The Underwriting Trainee is an entry-level position. Prior insurance experience is not required. The Trainee is expected to complete a 6–12-month training program with the Underwriter Development and Audit department. Meeting or exceeding performance expectations as the UW Trainee in this initial phase allows for transition to regional on-the-job training in the Trainee capacity. Upon meeting, or exceeding performance expectations in this regional training as a Trainee, allows for eligibility of promotion to an open Associate Underwriter role.

    Responsibilities:

    • The Underwriting Trainee is expected to develop a working knowledge or all pertinent insurance contract forms (ISO and CIG proprietary), including coverages and applications.
    • Develop a familiarity with pertinent, applicable, state and federal regulations, codes, laws, and statutes affecting their work, and know where to find them for detailed review.
    • Will be proficient in working within all systems necessary to perform their work, including Policy Center, Claims Center, eCIG, UMS, and Sharepoint, as well as vendor and government sites.
    • The trainee will be proficient in understanding all Commercial or Agribusiness manuals and program guidelines.
    • Trainee will complete all required courses for the CIG Property Expertise Certification within their first full year of employment as an Associate Underwriter.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • College Degree from a Certified University or College 3.0 GPA or better
    • Excellent computer skills

    • Analytical skills required
    • Innate sense of curiosity
    • An ongoing commitment to professional development and pursuit of technical Underwriting skill development desired

    Hourly pay rate: $24.00

    The salary range listed here has been provided to comply with local regulations and represents a potential base salary range for this role. Please note that actual salaries may vary within the range above or below, depending on experience and location. We look at compensation for each individual and base our offer on your unique qualifications, experience, and expected contributions. This position may also be eligible for other types of compensation in addition to base salary, such as benefits and bonus programs.
