Veterinary Technician jobs in Gadsden, AL

Veterinary Technician assists veterinarian with exams, surgeries, and first aid. Collects and documents case history and treatment details. Being a Veterinary Technician monitors vital signs and condition of animals being treated and provides nursing care. Takes X rays, EKG, Ultrasound, and performs various lab test including urinalysis and blood counts. Additionally, Veterinary Technician depending on state regulations, may administer anesthesia, injections, and perform dental prophylaxis, catheterization, and other procedures under supervision of a veterinarian. Instructs pet owners on how to administer medication and other animal care skills. Typically requires an associate degree. Depending on state, may require RVT certification. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Veterinary Technician works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job. To be a Veterinary Technician typically requires 3-5 years of related experience. (Copyright 2024 Salary.com)

    • Recovery and patient care
    • Use and care of equipment used in the internal medicine department (ex: endoscope)
    • Drug calculations
    • Pharmacology and medical terminology
    Position Requirements:
    • Scheduling: 4-day work week Mon-Thurs – rotating weekend on-call Fri-Sun
    • Experience: We require a minimum of two years of veterinary technician experience, with a preference for those who have worked in specialty practice
    • Physical: Must have the strength and stamina to work on feet throughout shift and lift up to 30 pounds. Perform general physical activities that require bending, standing, stooping, moving from room to room, sit, talk, and listen; may be required to walk or stand for long periods of time.
    • Ergonomic: An employee in this position must be capable of safely working in environment with potential exposure to hazardous materials, infectious and zoonotic diseases.
    • Other: An employee in this position must have a sense of caring for animals. Maintain strict confidence regarding client and patient information. Ability to multi-task and prioritize.
