Veterinary Technician assists veterinarian with exams, surgeries, and first aid. Collects and documents case history and treatment details. Being a Veterinary Technician monitors vital signs and condition of animals being treated and provides nursing care. Takes X rays, EKG, Ultrasound, and performs various lab test including urinalysis and blood counts. Additionally, Veterinary Technician depending on state regulations, may administer anesthesia, injections, and perform dental prophylaxis, catheterization, and other procedures under supervision of a veterinarian. Instructs pet owners on how to administer medication and other animal care skills. Typically requires an associate degree. Depending on state, may require RVT certification. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Veterinary Technician works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Port Royal Veterinary Hospital (PRVH) is on the Atlantic coast between Charleston and Savannah in a brand-new huge state-of-the-art facility with a kick-ass surgery and imaging suite. Our treatment area gives patients and staff lots of room to work. Our hospital requires an experienced, dedicated candidate to join our full-time staff. The right candidate will possess the ability to work independently and be familiar with performing basic veterinary tasks including treating animals, preparing them for surgery, monitoring anesthesia levels, ensuring the safety of the hospital environment, maintaining sterile conditions and developing a smooth workflow within the hospital. The successful candidate will also be comfortable working in a dynamic environment with a variety of responsibilities.
    - Perform animal restraint during examinations and procedures
    - Administer medications and treatments as directed by veterinarians
    - Monitor and record vital signs of animals
    - Prepare animals for surgery and assist during surgical procedures
    - Collect and process laboratory samples for testing
    - Perform radiographs and other diagnostic imaging procedures
    - Maintain cleanliness and organization of the hospital
    - Educate pet owners on proper animal care and treatment plans

    Qualifications:
    - Associate's degree in Veterinary Technology or related field is a PLUS
    - Strong knowledge of animal physiology, anatomy, and behavior
    - Proficiency in animal restraint techniques and handling
    - Experience with animal catheterization and aseptic technique
    - Familiarity with laboratory procedures and equipment
    - Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
    - Ability to work well in a team environment
