The Video Editor mixes and masters audio. Edits video footage to desired length and format, creates motion graphics, and completes color corrections. Being a Video Editor archives and stores all files, footage, graphics, and audio. Encodes final videos to desired size and format. In addition, Video Editor proficient using Adobe Creative suite and production software including After Effects and Final Cut and other editing software. Typically requires a bachelor's degree or its equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Being a Video Editor gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function.   • Good Times seeks a part time managing editor to join its Santa Cruz-based award-winning editorial team. Candidate should have a passion for producing groundbreaking journalism and enjoy working in a dynamic, creative environment.


    Good Times encourages its journalists to dig beneath the surface and provide insights that go deeper than conventional reporting, and to share thoughtful coverage in a colorful, narrative style.


    As managing editor you will be responsible for creating and assigning stories, managing workflows in concert with our design team and executive editor, and posting content to digital channels.


    Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

    • Support editor in managing Good Times’ copy flow of each issue. Manage editorial production process.
    • Ensure proper agreements are in place with freelancers. Copy edit stories for the news, arts, food and events section.
    • Maintain GT cover story schedule.
    • Write stories for weekly issues and magazines as needed.
    • Help to develop staff and freelance writers.
    • Update, maintain and oversee content on GoodTimes.sc and related websites.
    • Populate and expand online calendar of events and export to print calendar each week.
    • Oversee Good Times’ social media activity on Instagram, X and Facebook, with daily posts.
    • Oversee grant initiatives to expand editorial team.
    • Other duties as may be required from time to time

     

    Requirements:

    Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills

    Bachelor's degree in journalism, political science or English, or comparable experience

    A minimum of three years related experience

    Working familiarity with Wordpress and Google Workspace applications

    Knowledge of SEO and social media best practices

    Adherence to journalism best practices and ethics

    Great attention to detail, ability to give constructive feedback and the ability to create great stories
