    • Leads, coordinates and facilitates the development of visitor use management (VUM) plans and strategies, and provides technical assistance to parks throughout the Intermountain region, which includes Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Colorado, Utah, Wyoming and Montana.
    • Integrates a variety of professional expertise and disciplines related to park planning, environmental impact analysis, transportation, social science, visitor experience and resource protection
    • Serves as the principal staff advisor to the regional planning manager, regional leadership, and park managers on visitor use strategies and recreation management techniques needed to meet visitor capacity and access goals
    • Performs a wide range of duties related to VUM planning and functions as a regional planning expert and project team member involved in the preparation of a variety of planning projects, studies and related environmental documents
    • Responsible for responding to communication requests, writing project correspondence, and leading or participating in leadership briefings, public meetings and civic engagement

    EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: (1) experience applying Visitor Use Management (VUM) policies and frameworks, and developing guidelines or best practices to deal with VUM issues on public lands; (2) experience serving as a subject matter expert in VUM on interdisciplinary teams of planning professionals supporting the preparation of plans and studies; and (3) providing professional advice to leaders and decisionmakers on complex or controversial VUM projects or issues. You must include hours per week worked.

    This position has a quality ranking factor: A highly qualified candidate for this position will have experience applying the Interagency Visitor Use Management Council (IVUMC) Visitor Use Management Framework, which is a process designed to collaboratively develop, implement, and monitor strategies and actions to provide sustainable access to lands and waters. The intent, and ultimate desired outcome, is to provide high quality visitor experiences, while protecting natural and cultural resources. Understanding how to apply the IVUMC VUM Framework to develop VUM strategies and inform decisions is critical to the success of the incumbent.

    Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
