    The Senior Director of Volunteer Services & Workforce Development is responsible for leading a world-class volunteer services program for UI Health, encompassing support for both internal and external stakeholders. Leads and manages the day-to-day operations of Volunteer Services, Workforce Development, and clinical experience coordination and implements best-in-class service standards across each area of accountability to provide optimal first and last impressions to all patients, families, visitors, staff, and providers. Additionally, this role manages clinical educational experiences that meet the educational requirements for students while meeting the mission of the Hospital & Clinics. The coordinator will work with the University, the Division of Patient Care Services, as well as other schools to coordinate the clinical experiences of students at the Hospital & Clinics.

     

    Duties & Responsibilities

    • Oversees the day-to-day operations of Volunteer Services, clinical educational experiences, and workforce development programs, ensuring alignment with UI Health’s strategic objectives and compliance with regulatory standards.
    • Develops and implements recruitment strategies to attract a diverse pool of volunteers and coordinates health science student clinical placements across all UI Health entities.
    • Leads the volunteer recruiting process, including screening, interviewing, and selection, hiring, orienting, placing, and managing the volunteer workforce while also facilitating and coordinating health science student clinical placements.
    • Collaborates with the Marketing & Strategic Communications department to develop recruitment and promotional materials for volunteer services, clinical rotation experiences and workforce development programs.
    • Designs and delivers presentations and orientation sessions for volunteers and health science students, enhancing their engagement and experience.
    • Leads the creation of work-based learning experiences, including site visits, job shadows, internships, and guest speakers, focusing on professional skill development for employment at UI Health and beyond.
    • Develops & Implements career-ladder programs and manages a tracking system for volunteers, student placements, and employee development programs assessing productivity and service effectiveness.
    • Develops and facilitates programs and training for volunteers and health science students, ensuring compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards. • Implements, evaluates, and revises policies and procedures.
    • Manages and leads special activities and events, collaborating with internal and external partners to promote and enhance program visibility and impact.
    • Fosters collaborative relationships with UI Health/UIC, external organizations, and educational institutions to ensure successful program implementation.
    • Engages in extensive networking and represents UI Health at seminars, workshops, and conferences to share best practices and developments in volunteer services, workforce development and clinical education experiences.
    • Plans, assigns, and reviews work of department staff, ensuring objectives are met, and manages operational budgets.
    • Supports the Champions program by helping youth secure volunteer and employment opportunities at UI Health, especially those enrolled in Chicago Public Schools/Careers in Technical Education Program.
    • Provides regular reports and analysis on the status and effectiveness of volunteer services, workforce development programs, and clinical education experiences to the Chief Administrative Officer. 
    • Reaches out to neighboring institutions such as high schools, community colleges, training programs to recruit and provide workforce development opportunities for students interested in healthcare including, professional workshops, volunteering opportunities, internships, and shadowing opportunities.
