Summary

The wardrobe supervisor is responsible for supervising all wardrobe related activities during each of our three mainstage operas. They help determine where and how costume changes are made. All costume run crew report directly to the wardrobe supervisor, who acts as primary liaison between costume run crew, the costumer coordinator, and stage management. The Wardrobe Supervisor also acts as a hand in the Costume Shop. Holistic effective communication and dissemination of information is essential to the successful execution of this position.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Oversee implementation of rental costume packages needed for each of three mainstage productions.
• Responsible for the care and proper maintenance of all costumes, shoes, undergarments, hats and costume related personal props.
• Ensures the proper labeling, hanging, storage and preset of all costume pieces.
• Creates and executes a proper cleaning schedule for all garments, ensuring that laundry is done on a regular basis between performances. They also coordinate the regular changing of dress shields, the application of garment freshening sprays and providing clean undergarments to the performers.
• Ensures that all costumes are properly pressed or steamed prior to each performance.
• The wardrobe supervisor also regularly inventories and inspects all costumes and coordinates all costume repairs.
• At the end of a production run, the wardrobe supervisor oversees all aspects of the costume strike. In the case of rented costumes, they coordinate restoring costumes to their original condition. This includes ripping out hems or alterations that may have been done for fitting and removing any added trim or ornamentation.
• The wardrobe supervisor is responsible for providing a complete and accurate inventory that ensures all pieces are returned.
• Supervised by the Costume Coordinator and Shop Manager, Director of Production.

• Willingness to take ownership of your position and not blame other staff members or outside circumstances for your degree of success on individual tasks and on your position as a whole.
• Able to take instruction and feedback from supervisors and use it to improve your job performance.
• Understanding of channels of communication and the importance of clear and open communication.
• Maintain calm under pressure and receive/ intake information from multiple sources that you quickly prioritize and relay to Technical Director or Director of Production/ act upon if deemed appropriate.
• Above all, must possess a positive attitude, a sense of humor, and ability to work well in a team dynamic.

Requirements

• Complete satisfactory background check
• Must have valid state driver's license and possess a clean driving record

Compensation

• Includes a season stipend paid bi-weekly, full board, and on-campus housing
