Waste Management Manager develops and implements procedures for the disposal of hazardous or contaminated materials per governmental regulations. Oversees the design and implementation of waste inspection, handling, and disposal systems. Being a Waste Management Manager trains staff in the safe and proper handling of waste materials. Monitors and reviews regulations and trends and maintains effective waste management policies and procedures that support business operations. Additionally, Waste Management Manager typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Waste Management Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Waste Management Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     This on-call position is located at the Glenwood Transfer Station. 

    Wage starts at $16.00 per hour.  


    About the Position

    This position requires strong customer service skills, basic math skills, and the ability to use a computer. The ideal candidate must have a desire to connect positively with co-workers and customers, be team oriented. 

    Duties include: 
    • Estimate load volumes 
    • Assess fees
    • Handle cash 
    • Issue receipts
    • Calculate and report daily transactions
    • Make bank deposits and pick up and delivering supplies. 
    • Prefer prior work related cash handling and POS computer experience. 
    Based on operational needs, more than one position may be filled from this posting. 


    About the Division

    This Division of Waste Management oversees the management of solid recycling and solid waste in Lane County. Our mission is to provide, safe, responsible and economical recycling and disposal services, while respecting the environment and communities we serve.
     

    Schedule: Work hours will vary based on the operational needs. 

    • Typical schedule: 7:30 am - 6:15 pm

    • Successful applicants must be available to work on an as-needed basis and on Saturdays. 

    • Employees are typically notified by 7:00 a.m. if they will be needed for the day. 

    *This is a non-represented position*

    *Extra Help employees may work up to a maximum of 520 hours per fiscal year beginning July 1 and ending June 30 of the following year.

    Special Requirements:

    • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older at time of hire 

    • Must possess a valid Oregon Driver's License.
