    • Perform water plant operator maintenance.
    • Determine significance of any problems occurring and take appropriate action.
    • Conduct daily, routine, basic laboratory tests necessary for plant operation.

    • This position requires you to possess and maintain State (Oklahoma) Certification as a Water Treatment Plant Operator.
    • This position requires you to possess and maintain State (Oklahoma) Certification as a Sewage Disposal Plant Operator.
    • This position requires you to possess and maintain a valid State Driver's License.
    • This position requires you to complete the introductory course in hazardous waste management within six months of being appointed into the position and attend refresher course annually.
    • This position requires pre-employment and annual physicals.

    Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Water Treatment Plant Operator ~ without more than normal supervision. Must possess the ability to perform common tasks including operating water pumping and water treating equipment used in the process of purifying water for personal consumption and industrial purposes; manually regulating valves to control flow of raw water from entities such as lakes through a water treatment plant; collecting and weighing water samples to insure maintaining the correct pH in the dosed water. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

    PHYSICAL EFFORT
    Water plant operators do considerable walking, standing on concrete floors, and climbing stairways and ladders. Light to moderate physical effort is necessary to turn valves and controls. They frequently lift and carry items weighing up to 18 kilograms (40 pounds) unassisted, and occasionally lift and carry heavier items with assistance of other workers or with lifting devices.

    WORKING CONDITIONS
    Work is performed both inside and outside; subject to damp, odorous, and varied weather conditions for substantial amount of time; possible infection, asphyxiation, and injury from contact with sewage, and sewage gases and fumes, plant equipment and/or more severe injuries from falls into open tanks. Is exposed to chlorine gas and dusts of lime and alum which may call for protective clothing.
