Waste Water Treatment Plant Manager supervises the operations and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant to ensure compliance with regulatory procedures and reporting practices. Oversees sampling and testing systems, and the testing and maintenance of pumps, conveyors, blowers, and other equipment. Position is responsible for all operations and maintenance of a municipal waste water plant through supervising and participating in the operations and maintenance of an activated sludge municipal waste water treatment plant. Schedules plant operators so that all shifts are staffed, reviews the operations of the plant to assure proper treatment and no improper discharges occur. Monitors plant for maintenance needs, assures preventative and scheduled maintenance and cleaning are done as per specifications. Determines when maintenance requires electrical or other contractors. Monitors operators sampling and making adjustments in treatment. Trains operators in safe operations and handling of hazardous materials such as sulfite and chlorine. Conducts drills to prepare for emergencies. Keeps records of treatment, discharges, maintenance and time and attendance of operators. Performs related work as required.
Essential Functions: Normal mobility, manual dexterity and strength, are required to operate and maintain plant equipment, as are vision, hearing within normal limits. Positions require occasional heavy lifting, climbing, digging and exertion. Ability to lift up to 55 lbs. and work in confined spaces.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: -Completion of high school or equivalent, literacy and a valid Louisiana driver’s license are required. Must meet the general requirements of the City’s auto insurance company. Must be a qualified registered voter. Must submit a copy of the voter verification and high school verification along with the City of New Iberia application. -Supplemental extensive experience in process waste water plant operation is desired. Either possession of a State of Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals Waste Water Treatment Certification Level IV or actively working towards obtaining that level certification within a time frame established by the Department Head is required.
Desired computer skills include proficiency in use of Microsoft Office applications, specifically WORD, EXCEL, and ACCESS.
-Must pass the Civil Service exam, post-offer drug screen, physical, and functional pre-placement testing.
