Waste Water Treatment Plant Manager supervises the operations and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant to ensure compliance with regulatory procedures and reporting practices. Oversees sampling and testing systems, and the testing and maintenance of pumps, conveyors, blowers, and other equipment. Being a Waste Water Treatment Plant Manager ensures staff is up-to-date with all federal, state, and local regulations and environmental guidelines. Typically requires a bachelor's degree or other tech degree. Additionally, Waste Water Treatment Plant Manager typically reports to a manager or director. The Waste Water Treatment Plant Manager supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/ production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. To be a Waste Water Treatment Plant Manager typically requires 3-5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. Utilities Plant Operator - Water Treatment

    Performs intermediate skilled trades work assisting mechanics in maintaining water treatment operations, and related work as apparent or assigned.   Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Senior Utilities Plant Operator.

    Qualification Requirements

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

    • Assists senior plant operator with routine technical and responsible skilled work in the operation and maintenance of water treatment plant and equipment associated within.
    • Makes regular tours of plant to check engines, generators, pumps, settling tanks, filters and other equipment for proper functioning.
    • Records readings from meters and instruments; performs specific laboratory tests.
    • Reports defects to maintenance personnel.
    • Substitutes for senior operator in his/her absence.
    • Monitor water plant operations and distribution via SCADA
    • Adjust chemical dosages under the direction of the senior operator

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    Thorough knowledge of related industry, organization, and department policies, practices, and procedures; thorough knowledge of related industry, organization, and departmental legal guides, recommendations, best practices, ordinances, and laws; thorough knowledge of industry standard and department specific equipment; general knowledge water plant drawings and maps; ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals; ability to compute rates, ratios and percentages; ability to compute flows, volumes, weights from data; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.

    Education and Experience

    High school diploma or GED and minimal experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Physical Requirements

    This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and reaching with hands and arms, frequently requires repetitive motions and occasionally requires standing, walking, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, tasting or smelling, pushing or pulling and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work frequently requires exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, working with explosives, wearing a self-contained breathing apparatus, exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment, Exposure to Carcinogens and Exposure to E-coli and occasionally requires wet, humid conditions (non-weather), working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to outdoor weather conditions, exposure to the risk of electrical shock and exposure to vibration; work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic).

    Upon Hire:

    • Ability to pass a validated job assessment skills test which will include math
    • Valid driver's license

    Within 6 months of hire:

    • Ability to pass City sponsored Operator skills/math test

    Within a reasonable timeframe:

    • Pass NC State B Surface Certification as per the City's operator policy
