Waste Water Treatment Technician ensures that pumps, conveyors, blowers, chlorinators, vacuum equipment and other waste water treatment equipment are functioning properly. Monitors equipment for potential failures and may make minor repairs or adjustments as needed. Being a Waste Water Treatment Technician collects water samples for chemical analysis. May be required to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty. Additionally, Waste Water Treatment Technician typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Waste Water Treatment Technician works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area.   • The Engineering Technician 1-3 performs a variety of technical office and field tasks to support the design, construction, and maintenance of water distribution systems and facilities under general supervision. The work includes close involvement with customers, agencies, and operations personnel to process requests for and provide guided assistance in the design and construction of water systems. This position functions independently in daily tasks and uses initiative and sound judgment in handling customer requests. Requires a thorough understanding of McMinnville Water and Light’s utility policies, programs, and procedures.

    Movement through the Engineering Technician levels 1, 2, and 3 is based upon satisfactory performance, demonstrated proficiency in knowledge, skills, and abilities at each level, and years of service. The position starts at Engineering Technician 1.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Required Education and Experience

    • High School Diploma or equivalent.
    • Minimum two years of applicable utility experience.
    • Any combination of experience and training which provides the equivalent scope of knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the work.
    • Advancement from the Engineering Technician 1 to the 2 and 3 levels is a function of education, training, skills, years of experience, and satisfactory performance.

    Special Requirements

    • Driver’s license valid in Oregon, with acceptable driving record.
    • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test, physical, and background check.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

    • Assists in planning, designing, and inspecting projects; this includes researching existing easements, drafting, surveying for base maps and utilities, designing, estimating, coordinating review(s), and acquiring permits.
    • Participates, coordinates, inspects, and routinely follows up on construction projects.
    • Identifies, coordinates and assists in resolving conflicts during construction projects.
    • Works with staff to identify and plan utility system relocations.
    • Works with customers, contractors, and developers on processing water requests, discussing backflow needs, and handling water quality complaints.
    • Assists with document research and as-built recovery when requested.
    • Performs field measurements for documentation for facilities for projects, customers, CAD drawings updates, and/or studies.
    • Performs field inspections of construction and maintenance projects.
    • Acquires permits and easements.
    • Reviews water design and plans for compliance with OHA, EPA, and MW&L standards.
    • Attends pre-app and development meetings as requested.
    • Performs locates.
    • Writes traffic control plans.
    • Conducts cross connection surveys and inspections; evaluates cross connection hazards and recommends corrective action, including proper cross connection devices to be installed.
    • Develops and presents training and public awareness programs on cross connection control and backflow prevention; discusses water quality information with agencies and the public.
    • Works safely; assures work is completed safely and according to OSHA and MW&L Safety requirements.
    • Prepares billing estimates and notifications to customers/developers.
    • Opens and closes work orders.
    • Analyzes and determines fire flow availability.
