Job Overview:

We are seeking Wastewater Operators to join our team. As an Operator, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining all segments of the Hanover Sewerage Authority Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Job Duties:

• Operations & Maintenance: Safely operate and maintain prescribed wastewater equipment according to schedule. Includes tanks, pumps, motors, etc.

• Recording & Calculations: Log all maintenance records in your assigned area. Record and calculate daily readings.

• Line Maintenance: Perform sewer taps, operate sewer jet, enter manholes and other confined spaces, inspect sewer lines, and maintain proper inspection records.

• Laboratory Sampling and Testing: Perform sampling and testing of parameters required as deemed necessary by the plant superintendent.

• General Housekeeping: Keep your assigned areas clean, and help in areas assigned by supervisors.

• Weekend scheduled work/Emergencies: Operators are required to work scheduled weekend and holidays and perform emergency work as deemed necessary by the plant superintendent.

Accountability:

After the initial training has been completed, the treatment plant operator will be held accountable for knowledge of all safety procedures required, which include the following: Emergency response Procedures, All HSA and OSHA safety programs, and other specific safe job procedures.

• Personnel are also required to respond to emergency calls on a 24-hour basis.

• Personnel must quality for HSA Respiratory Program for entrance into confined spaces and Emergency Hazardous Substance Response.

Qualifications:

Education Requirements: High School graduate

Experience: Employment in wastewater treatment system preferred but not required. Experience in operation, maintenance and repair of mechanical and electrical equipment required.

Commercial Driver’s License: Class B CDL license with N Endorsement or willing to obtain CDL is required.

Respiratory Training/Clearance: Must have medical clearance for and be able to use a respirator for confined space or emergency response operations.

Physical Demands:

Medium to heavy work; involving climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, fingering, talking, hearing, visual acuity, depth perception, and color vision.

The tasks typically involve climbing ladders multiple times per day, climbing stairs multiple times per day, entering and climbing in manholes on a regular basis, lifting weights of fifty (50) pounds on a daily basis and one hundred (100) pounds on a regular basis, removing and reinstalling manhole covers, pushing and moving objects using appropriate equipment with weights up to 500 pounds, stooping, kneeling or crouching to perform operational and maintenance activities, operating overhead equipment such as valves with an operating force of up to fifty (50) pounds.
