Job Summary
The Clinical Applications Manager is responsible for providing leadership and coordination of the application analysts, and is responsible for specific tasks associated with the implementation and utilization of clinical application systems within Skagit Regional Health. Ensures that the systems meet the functional requirements of Skagit Regional Health and supports clinical standards of care. Using a clinical perspective, the Clinical Applications Manager works closely with leadership to ensure the clinical user requests and clinical standards are considered during the definition of functional requirements, building, training and implementation of the Epic system and other clinical applications utilized by clinical staff.
Essential Functions
Provide functional oversight by working closely with the Epic application analysts, project sponsor(s), IS leadership and other IS analyst throughout the analysis, build, design, configuration, QA/testing, validation and implementation of clinical applications that impact clinical areas. Coordinate and/or provide departmental support during each phase of implementation. Ensure clinical needs are evaluated and validated when implementation/project plans are developed through staff participation and collaboration with key stakeholders. Possess key knowledge of the operation of the suite of clinical applications as new ones are installed and existing ones are upgraded. Utilize universal clinical applications expertly. Assess the implications on clinical operations and processes of patient care delivery when assisting in resolution of departmental issues. Participate in development and testing of the application functions. Coordinate and participate in QA of the application functions, including the development of testing scripts and use-cases. Assist in go-live and conversion planning, go-live activities and turnover to production support for Epic and other new and upgraded systems ensuring that associated processes and work flow of the clinical staff are identified, documented and disseminated in the organization. Facilitate the creation and updating of policies, procedures, and guidelines as applicable to technical solutions and best practice. Maintain current downtime procedures for any applications utilized by the applicable clinical teams. Facilitate and support various clinical committees including Clinical Practice Committee working with committee chairs and provider champions to run high-performing meetings using visual aids and meeting management techniques. Provide communication and education to providers, MAs, nursing, therapy, and other clinical departments impacted by system Go Lives, upgrades, downtime, and work flow/process changes. Routinely reassess and evaluate end-user requirements to ensure end-user acceptance and optimal maturation of the clinical application solutions. Manages a team that includes resources who support on-call on a scheduled basis. Performs other duties as assigned.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Computer Science, Information Systems or equivalent experience required.
Experience/Training
At least six (6) years demonstrated progressive clinical and management experience required. Minimum three (3) years of supervisory or significant project management experience required. Minimum three (3) years of experience with clinical information systems required. Experience with leading informatics teams and prior experience with change management preferred. Knowledge of Epic clinical applications preferred. Lean/Six Sigma experience preferred.
License/Certifications
Clinical licensure preferred. Epic and Informatics certifications preferred.
Other Skills
Familiarity with healthcare information system industry. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate with various levels of employees and staff within the organization. Superior public speaking skills and ability to formulate highly functional teams, and promote collaboration.
