Women's Athletics Director directs all facets of a university/college's women's athletic program, including intramural and intercollegiate sports. Manages the entire women's coaching staff. Being a Women's Athletics Director schedules use of facilities, transportation, and sporting events. Also responsible for fundraising, publicity, ticket pricing and distribution, and purchase of new equipment. Additionally, Women's Athletics Director requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Women's Athletics Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.     The Position

    Reporting directly to the Executive Director the Director of Athletics is responsible for management and development of Youth and Adult athletics programming, Middle School Athletics, Midland Basketball Academy, Youth Athletics Camps and Greater Midland Races. This individual must maintain high personal standards and adhere to and carry out the purpose of Greater Midland to Promote Vitality, Build Belonging and Serve with Heart.

    Major Job Responsibilities

    • Recruit, lead, develop and manage athletic program staff including but not limited to Coordinators, Coaches/Instructors, Officials and large volunteer base.
    • Create and maintain department budget with strict adherence to expense controls and focus on achievement of revenue targets.
    • Ensure high-quality, results-based programming through effective training and professional growth of staff, exceptional communication and safe/appropriate execution of all programming.
    • Continue the growth of athletics programming.
    • Fundraising and sponsorships to support athletics programming through collaborative marketing efforts, outreach, building and leveraging networks.
    • Coordinate the schedule and staff for Youth Athletic Camps in collaboration with Director of Camp/Recreation.
    • Update, maintain and enforce organizational and departmental policies and procedures.
    • Build familiarity with MHSSA (Michigan High School Athletic Association) policies.
    • Coordinate complex facility schedules including programming, drop-in activities and rentals.
    • Exercise collaboration, responsiveness and timely communication to establish strong working relationships.
    • Strong community collaboration and continued outreach to expand equitable access to and participation in programs.
    • Build strong community partnerships including but not limited to Midland Public Schools, local school districts, businesses, agencies and existing community partners.

    Qualifications

    • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree or higher in recreation, physical education or related field.
    • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in administrative/departmental level leadership.
    • Minimum 3-5 years of experience supervising a team of 10 employees.
    • Exceptional communication skills, interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with the community.
    • CPR/First aid certification.

    Physical Requirements

    Greater Midland operates operating units and multiple program sites across the Greater Midland area. Facilities vary in layout and size and include various environments. Hours of operation vary and may include early mornings, late evenings and weekends.
