Yard Jockey operates gasoline or diesel powered tractor trailer combination bringing trailers to loading docks to be unloaded. Backs trailer to loading docks, performs safety checks to secure trailer, opens bay doors, and assists dock workers in loading/unloading trailer. Being a Yard Jockey maintains radio or telephone contact with dispatcher to receive delivery or pick up instructions or to receive notice of changes in scheduled delivery or pick up. Typically requires a high school diploma. Additionally, Yard Jockey requires Commercial Driver License (CDL) - Class A. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Yard Jockey works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. To be a Yard Jockey typically requires 1-3 years of related experience. Responsibilities:
- Oversee and lead a team of landscape workers in performing various tasks related to tree care, lawn care, garden maintenance, and groundskeeping
- Plan and execute landscaping projects, including the construction of outdoor structures and the installation of irrigation systems
- Ensure that all work is completed according to specifications and within established timelines
- Train and mentor team members on proper techniques and safety procedures
- Monitor the quality of work performed by the team and provide feedback for improvement
- Collaborate with clients to understand their landscaping needs and provide recommendations for enhancements
- Maintain inventory of tools, equipment, and supplies needed for landscaping projects
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and company policies
Skills:
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to effectively manage a team
- Extensive knowledge of tree care, lawn care, garden maintenance, and groundskeeping practices
- Proficiency in operating landscaping equipment such as mowers, trimmers, chainsaws, and irrigation systems

Note: Previous experience as a Landscape Supervisor or in a similar leadership role is preferred.
