The Chief Informatics Officer guides the selection, development, and/or implementation of systems designed to effectively manage medical information and meet the needs of patient care staff. Establishes strategic direction, policies, and procedures for the organization's clinical information systems with the goal of improving clinical operations. Being a Chief Informatics Officer requires an advanced degree. Coordinates between IT and clinical staff in order to ensure effective integration of clinical systems with other institutional applications. In addition, Chief Informatics Officer typically reports to top management. The Chief Informatics Officer manages a business unit, division, or corporate function with major organizational impact. Establishes overall direction and strategic initiatives for the given major function or line of business.
