The Head Nurse - Emergency Department delegates responsibilities to auxiliary and emergency room staff nurses; supervises preparation and maintenance of emergency room patient clinical records, and writes reports on emergency room staff performance and services rendered. Directs nursing service activities in the emergency room. Being a Head Nurse - Emergency Department must be graduate of an accredited nursing program with current state licensure. Maintains pre-set inventory standards for solutions, supplies, medicines and equipment, and keeps track of narcotics. In addition, Head Nurse - Emergency Department typically reports to top management. The Head Nurse - Emergency Department manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Extensive knowledge of department processes. Working as a Head Nurse - Emergency Department typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 to 3 years supervisory experience may be required.
