Job Description

The Medical/Clinical Laboratory Technician II prepares specimens for microscopic examination or testing procedures. Performs a variety of routine and specialized diagnostic medical lab tests as requested by healthcare staff according to established protocols and procedures. Being a Medical/Clinical Laboratory Technician II performs quality control and assurance procedures. Operates automated laboratory instrumentation and equipment. In addition, Medical/Clinical Laboratory Technician II records lab results in specified system. Follows all required privacy, safety, and biohazard procedures and standards. Requires an associate degree in laboratory technology, science or equivalent. Requires valid certification as Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) from ASCP or AMT. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Being a Medical/Clinical Laboratory Technician II works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job. Working as a Medical/Clinical Laboratory Technician II typically requires 3-5 years of related experience, or may need 2 years experience with additional specialized training and/or certification.
