Job Description

Medical Laboratory Technician performs manual and automated routine medical lab tests such as urinalyses and blood counts. Prepares specimens for microscope examination. Being a Medical Laboratory Technician operates laboratory equipment including centrifuges, dry bath incubators, and blood bank refrigerators. Conducts only waived and moderate level testing as classified by CLIA. Additionally, Medical Laboratory Technician typically requires an associate degree in lab science. Typically reports to a Medical Technologist. Requires certification by ASCP or AMT. Requires passing a national exam given by the Board of Registry of the American Society for Clinical Pathology.
