Job Description

Medical Records Manager manages and oversees the medical records function within a healthcare organization. Responsible for the accuracy, completeness, confidentiality, and security of all healthcare information. Being a Medical Records Manager ensures all the healthcare information management processes and practices comply with applicable JCAHO and other required regulations and policies. Requires a bachelor's degree. Additionally, Medical Records Manager requires Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) certification. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Medical Records Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Medical Records Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.
