Operations/Fleet Safety Manager - Full Time

Location - Bronx, NY 10451
Compensation - $22.00 - $28.00 per hour + Bonus Potential

About the role:

The Operations/Fleet Manager should be a high-energy professional who is proactive and self-motivated with a demonstrated ability to think and plan strategically. We are looking for someone who can coach and mentor our employees on safe operation of our trucks and driving defensively out in the field. Preparing new and existing drivers at 1-800-GOT-JUNK? will be a vital function of the Ops/Fleet Safety Manager’s day to day duties. You will be responsible for a fleet that consists of equipment vehicles of box trucks of CDL Class B size and ensure all preventative and corrective maintenance be taken should any issues arise. The role will also involve working in different facets critical in small business: sales, marketing, administration, operations, and human resources. 

Key responsibilities of this position will include (but not be limited to):

  • Supervising a team of Truck Team Members and motivating them to achieve their goals that you have set with the assistance of the Director of Operations. 
  • Train truck team members in areas of driver safety and defensive driving.
  • Conduct driver facing training in classroom, one-on-one, and hands-on settings.
  • Perform safety-related functions including, but not limited to, accident reviews and administering skills evaluations.
  • Conduct regular on-road tests and other evaluations with employees to determine if they meet skills standards and are following safety standards, state regulations, and company policies.
  • Maintaining all information related to sales, estimates, job/truck and other operational details are entered in supporting information systems, ensuring all details are accurate and up-to-date.
  • Dispatching the jobs and coordinating the service routes to ensure that our teams arrive at the right place at the right time ready to work.
  • Completion of staffing tasks including, hiring, training and staff scheduling.
  • Build & maintain relationships with customers, realtors, property managers and other service companies within companies’ target markets to increase sales.
  • Ensuring high-quality execution for all jobs; monitoring post-job satisfaction of customers and proactively addressing any issues that arise.
  • Maintaining all information related to sales, estimates, job/truck, and other operational details are entered in supporting information systems, ensuring all details are accurate and up to date.
  • Achievement of all safety and operational related goals and metrics.

To qualify, candidates must possess:

  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills.
  • Must have the intellectual and leadership abilities needed to provide over-the-road, basic skills, and classroom instruction to our employees.
  • Strong desire to help others excel and hit goals.
  • Ability to influence others to perform their jobs safely and create a culture of safety.
  • Prior work experience in an Operations, Logistics, Warehouse environment. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; Technology savvy
  • Open availability and flexible schedule (weekends a must)

 Motor Vehicle Record requirements:

  • Valid CDL Instructor card or Class A CDL
  • Must be over 23 years old and have a clean motor vehicle abstract.
  • Minimum of 3 years verifiable local or long distance driving experience in straight trucks at least 14’ in length
  • DOT Qualified
  • Must pass a background check, and comprehensive drug test.
  • Knowledge of the 5 boroughs and Lower Westchester County.
  • Strong understanding of federal and NY driving rules and regulations.
