What does an Business Analyst I do at companies like 2U, Inc.?

What We’re Looking For:

2U is a SaaS-based education technology company that enables leading colleges and universities to deliver higher education to qualified students anywhere. We are looking for a Business Analyst to partner with our Business Intelligence and Machine Learning teams to raise the bar for our suite of tools supporting data needs across the company.

Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To:

Logistics and Management

  • Monitor bug queues to validate maintenance requests and prioritize urgent fixes while providing communication to team members and any potential mitigation strategies to those impacted
  • Assist in providing operational guidance to software engineers to eliminate blockers and translate the stakeholder needs to actionable prioritized requirements
  • Work closely with software engineers to provide collective comprehension of the project scope, objectives, success metrics and priority based on the influence of the product team
  • Assist in improving team workflow processes in order to identify and improve upon efficiencies in software development, business analysis and operational functions
  • Assist in managing release plans for all development, which includes the compliance with security and auditing protocols
  • Contribute in cross-team collaboration efforts
  • Work closely with Product Managers to help execute on the product vision set by them and the goals of the business

Documentation and Testing

  • Own and maintain all user stories and ensure they have clear and measurable success criteria (with the assistance of a more senior business analyst)
  • Develop and maintain strategies, plans, scripts and cases for user acceptance testing (with the assistance of a more senior business analyst)
  • Validate all development work prior to release by confirming acceptance criteria and overall functionality
  • Facilitate functional user acceptance testing with business users
  • Own and maintain all training materials utilized for internal teams with regard to the communication and expectations of the functionality (with the assistance of a more senior business analyst)
  • Assist in release notes and communication regarding new features and functionality

Success Metrics and Communication

  • Work with multiple teams that may be impacted by or dependent on decisions, milestones or deployments owned by your team
  • Maintain the role as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) on the product suite and share knowledge across teams regarding current and future functionality

Things That Should Be In Your Background:

  • 1 year experience in Business Analysis, Quality Assurance, Project Management or Product Management or applicable field
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiar with Agile software development, methodologies and practices
  • Thrive in an environment that is creative and thoughtful

Other Attributes That Will Help You In This Role

  • Experience in the Education Technology industry 
  • Experience with managing and maintaining Jira, Slack, Aha!, Pivotal Tracker configurations
