JOB SUMMARY:

Position will have responsibility for maintaining account ledgers for Sutton’s property and casualty insurance subsidiaries, as well as to assist in the ledger preparation for Sutton’s holding companies.  As insurance financial reporting is highly regulated, knowledge of statutory insurance reporting requirements will be critical.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ledger entries and account reconciliations..
  • Filing (upon approval) of all statutorily required financial filings.
  • Prepare and keep bank accounts reconciled.
  • Coordinate with reinsurance accountant premium and loss information on a monthly basis and record these items monthly.
  • Maintain statutory expense details, and develop methodologies for preparing acquisition cost deferrals.
  • Research disputed account balances and work closely with customers and internal team to resolve un-reconciled matters.
  • Track premiums receivable by Program manager.
  • Coordinate the investment accounting detail with external portfolio manager on a monthly basis, and determine that the investment assets are reconciled by the portfolio managers.
  • Participate in internal and external audits.
  • Support month end closing processes.
  • Other duties as assigned.

SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE / ABILITIES

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proven organizational and timekeeping skills and a strong sense of attention to detail are essential
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Mathematical and Analytical Skills - ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • The ability to deal effectively and courteously with clients and colleagues, and to exercise discretion and confidentiality in all matters.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science (4-year college) in Finance or Accounting or Economics
  • 5+ years of reinsurance/insurance experience required – specifically with 3+ years of accounting in the insurance/reinsurance industry.
  • Insurance accounting experience STRONGLY preferred
  • Knowledge of SAP ledger system also a STRONG plus
