What does a Human Resource Generalist do at companies like A COMMUNITY OF FRIENDS?

Description


The Human Resource Generalist reports to the Director of Human Resources and Administration. This position collaborates with mangers and supervisors on human resource strategies to align with organizational objectives including; development of goals, staffing plan, (hours/payroll), talent selection, talent assessment, employee relations and professional development.  


Recruitment:

  • Conducts recruitment effort for exempt and nonexempt personnel, and temporary employees; conducts new employee orientations.
  •  Assists with the on-boarding process; extends offer letter and subsequent new hire paperwork.
  • Coordinates job posting on the website, reviewing resumes, and performing telephone interviews and reference checks.
  • Screens applicants to ensure management receives only the most qualified applicants for exempt and nonexempt personnel.
  • Submits and tracks employee background DMV checks.

 

Human Resource Management:

  • Maintains human resource information system (HRIS) records and compiles reports from the database as needed.
  • Maintains personnel files in compliance with applicable legal requirements.
  • Keeps employee records up-to-date by processing employee status changes in timely fashion.
  • Maintains listing of approved positions along with assigned salary grade levels.
  • Processes personnel action forms and ensures proper approvals; disseminates approved forms.
  • Conducts audits of various HR programs and recommends any corrective action.
  • Responds to routine inquiries regarding the application of HR policies and procedures.
  • Research and resolve problems related to human resources transactions.
  • Prepares employment verifications.
  • Prepares and maintains employee files; including confidential personnel, benefit and, workers compensation files.
  • Coordinates exit interviews.
  • Assists with new-employee orientations.
  • Assists with bi-monthly payroll processing.
  • Acts as primary point of contact for HR

Compensation and Benefits: 

  • Participates in benefits administration to include, change reporting, reviewing/reconcile invoices for payment and open enrollment.
  • Assists in administration of the compensation program; helps monitor the performance appraisal process and salary ranges.
  • Assists in organizational training and development efforts.
  • Maintains company organization charts.
  • Schedules Interviews for the Director of Human Resources.
  • Assists or prepares correspondence.
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.

Requirements


Basic Qualifications:

  • B.A. degree or at least 4 years equivalent experience working in a Human Resources department.
  • Able to work a flexible work schedule with some evenings, early mornings and weekend work required.
  • 4 years proficiency in Microsoft Office with Advance Excel Skills
  • Ability to read, write and speak Spanish
  • Ability to lift 30 lbs.
  • Valid California Driver License
  • Access to a personal vehicle to be used to conduct ACOF business
  • Ability to meet California minimum and ACOF insurance requirements
  • Ability to pass background check including Live scan fingerprinting

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working for a non-profit organization
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with mastery of principles of spelling, grammar, syntax and punctuation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working across and in partnership with various HR disciplines
  • Ability to understand and interpret human resources policies and procedures
  • Ability to maintain poise and courtesy under pressure
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion and tact
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work
  • Ability to perform mathematical computations
  • Ability to accurately prepare written records and reports
  • Ability to accurately perform data entry.
  • Sense of humor
