This intern position will allow you to assess real initiatives and collaborate on security best practices, broaden your abilities, and apply new skills? Our IT team is advancing AARP’s mission through digital solutions and identifying creative ways to deliver value in agile teams. 

As an Intern, you will have the opportunity to work across business and technical teams to apply your creativity and expertise to solve challenging business problems.

 On any given day, you will:

-Work on a self-organized and cross-functional team

-Harness Lean thinking to create a Kanban board

-Prioritize the highest-value work

-Manage stakeholder relationships and incorporate frequent stakeholder feedback

-Contribute in retrospectives to continuously improve how the team performs and communicates  


Soft-skills desired:

  • Agile/Scrum
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong logical problem-solving and analysis skills
  • Ability to understand business logic and create workflow diagrams
  • Ability to independently manage time and projects effectively
  • Documentation

Technical skills desired:

  • Familiarity with at least one programming language
  • Familiarity of common security related protocols and their design
  • Knowledge of building secure, robust software systems
  • Data analysis and storytelling techniques
  • Knowledge for automating code / security analysis techniques
  • Ability to quickly learn new software platforms

Perform tasks within AARP technology teams

Gather cutting-edge expertise in securing implementations of platforms

Assess development level of effort

Automating analysis using code analysis tools

Identify security vulnerabilities and quality defects and determine the steps needed to harden the software

Perform analysis and document results

Work in Kanban environment with agile mindset with business areas

Produce identified outcomes based on stakeholder needs


Prospective interns must be currently enrolled in a degree program at an accredited college or university; and be considered rising undergraduate juniors or seniors, graduate students, or post-doctorate students; and remain academically enrolled throughout the internship.

AARP also considers non-traditional interns who are looking to re-enter the workforce or change careers. This may include those who have previously graduated from college and enrolled in a continuing education program.
