Summary
This policy intern works in Policy and Brain Health in AARP's Policy Research and International Affairs Department. Policy & Brain Health seeks to empower people to have healthier brains over their lifetimes. We work across the Enterprise to develop and implement policies that will reduce risks for cognitive decline, improve care and treatment for people living with dementia and their caregivers, and help find a cure for dementia.
The intern will assist the Policy & Brain Health team in the work of the Global Council on Brain Health, including supporting meetings, and development of its materials, reports, and communications.
Other duties will include assisting AARP Chairing the Leadership Council of Aging Organizations in 2019-2020. The intern may have the opportunity to contribute to several of AARP's current priority areas, including Healthy Living (brain health), Caregiving, Age and Dementia Friendly Communities, and Staying Sharp. This position will conduct objective policy and scientific research both from domestic and international sources. The work includes providing research, analyzing input, interpreting findings of the research, writing draft reports, and assisting with the planning and development of meetings, as well as attending external meetings and conferences and reporting back on the issues.
ResponsibilitiesAs an Intern, you will apply strategic, analytical, and creative thinking to help solve challenging public health challenges facing an aging population and their families. On any given day, you could be researching, putting together power points, preparing meeting materials, working on expanding communication, outreach, and engagement on these issues.

Duties of our intern will include the following:
1. Provides research as needed;
2. Provides general support to the P&BH team, including production of written materials, presentations and conducting policy meetings and forums;
3. Drafts and/or edits portions of policy and or educational documents, assist in creating outreach and educational materials, working on web and social media communications.
RequirementsProspective interns must be currently enrolled in a degree program at an accredited college or university; and be considered rising undergraduate juniors or seniors, graduate students, or post-doctorate students.
AARP also considers non-traditional interns who are looking to re-enter the workforce or change careers. This may include those who have previously graduated from college and enrolled in a continuing education program.
