Summary

We are seeking a master’s-level graduate student, pursuing a degree in public policy or a related field to provide research support to AARP’s Chief Public Policy Officer on topics related to longevity and aging.

This paid year-long internship offers an exciting opportunity to work with the largest social welfare organization in the country and is an excellent way for a graduate student interested in public policy research to acquire hands-on experience as part of a small, committed and professional team.

Responsibilities

Assist Chief Public Policy Officer in conducting research on topics related to longevity, health care, retirement security, among other aging issues.

  • Research primary sources
  • Conduct literature reviews
  • Synthesize research findings
  • Prepare issue and perspective summaries, briefings and other background materials
  • Organize citations

Other duties as assigned

Requirements

Ideal candidates:

  • Must be currently enrolled in a master’s-level degree program in public policy or related field at an accredited college or university.
  • Are able to learn quickly and apply new skills.
  • Can work independently as well as collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Are detail-oriented.
  • Possess excellent research, analytical, organizational, and communications skills.
  • Have advanced computer skills, including with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook), and familiarity with SPSS is required. Familiarity with data visualization programs such as Tableau or infographics preferred.

AARP also considered non-traditional interns who are looking to re-enter the workforce or change careers. This may include those who have previously graduated college and are now enrolled in a continuing education program.
