Financial and Operational Services (FOS) manages AARP's multi-year financial planning, budgeting and forecasting; treasury and investments; tax reporting and planning; and accounting and financial reporting activities. The division provides project management and training and support for the systems used to manage AARP’s money and assets. 

Summary

Leads one of AARP’s major spend categories and will be a back-up support for at least one other category.

Responsibilities
  1. Leads category management efforts in one of AARP’s four main spend areas; (1) print, (2) IT, (3) marketing and advertising, or (4) services (each category is over $100 million in annual spend).
  2. Serves as the procurement subject-matter-expert in one of the four categories above.
  3. Collaborates with business unit leadership to develop annual category management plans that include an annual sourcing calendar, a supply market overview, summary of business needs and cost drivers, and current supply-base overview (complete with listing of expiring agreements and plan of action).
  4. Leads the large, complex sourcing and negotiation efforts as part of the category management plan.
  5. Leads and manages sourcing teams, including multiple business units and other procurement management resources.
  6. Meets annual category management objectives and targets related to spend under management, spend under contract and through approved buying channels, savings, and other efficiencies.
  7. Builds and maintains key business unit and supplier relationships, resolving disputes and driving innovation and continuous improvement.
  8. Oversees customer and supplier relationship management.
  9. Facilitates compliance with AARP procurement policies and procedures by setting an example, educating partners, and appropriately escalating issues, when required or unsure.
  10. Sets a leadership example for staff and the broader procurement management team.
  11. Teaches and mentors staff and less-experienced team members.
  12. Leads procurement management-wide initiatives beyond the scope of a given spend category, on occasion and as directed.
  13. Executes supplier agreements (signing the contract) up to $500 million in total value
Requirements

Completion of a Bachelor’s degree (MBA preferred) and 5 or more years of relevant procurement experience -- preferably with the majority in the private sector, with more than $50 million in management spend. 

Must understand category management concept frameworks.

Must show demonstrated leadership, a customer service mindset, and a deep understanding of both the source-to-contract and procure-to-pay segments of procurement operations.

Must demonstrate strong analytical and strategic skills and be comfortable with data manipulation and analysis.

Leadership and subject-matter-expertise in the category lead.

Deep strategic sourcing and negotiations experience.

Relationship management skills and executive presence
