The Project Management Advisor will work in the AARP Foundation Project Management Office.  This role will coach and advise staff that are leading projects in support of AARP Foundation strategies. In addition, the Project Management Advisor will work on process management activities, leadership reporting. Will work closely with stakeholders and leaders across all departments to ensure projects goals are attained. The Project Management Advisor will report to the Director, Business Operations & Optimization.


1.    Responsible for supporting AARP Foundation teams by working closely with the AARP Foundation Innovation team to review business case justifications and understand the cost, benefit, and risks of AARP Foundation projects.

2.    Lead the effort to coach and advise large groups of stakeholders needed for Foundation-wide projects.

3.    Oversee the impacts and interdependencies between teams and work to ensure initiatives meet the goals and objectives of the executive leadership team.

4.    Manage and maintain overarching project plans that reflect milestones, schedules, key dates, progress against targets, and risks.

5.    Serve as the central point of contact for AARP Foundation project statuses.

6.    Facilitate executive reviews and project updates as needed.

7.    Participate in key organization wide projects that will require leading and ensuring the documentation of current state processes.

 8.    Work with key teams to identify areas where process improvements can be achieved through improved workforce management and integration of current systems and process; while            always keeping the internal client experience in mind.


Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent.

Masters preferred.

7 or more years of experience in Project Management.

Working knowledge of both waterfall and agile methodologies.

Excellent business judgment, and a familiarity with a wide variety of business models both in the for-profit and non-profit sectors.

Strong interpersonal skills that facilitate coaching, negotiation, consultative, and coordination.

Strong organizational and analytical skills.

Experience with process improvement.

Preference to take on responsibility, manage several streams of work at once, and deliver professional work-product promptly and on-deadline.

Ability to communicate clearly, succinctly and effectively in both written and verbal format, including public speaking.

Highly self-motivated and driven to make a difference.
