The primary functions of this position are performance of analytical testing on raw ingredients, in-process and finished product, and plant utilities. This also includes testing for release of product to manufacturing for further processing, filling, and finishing.
This position is on an overnight shift 4pm-4am. This person will train on 1st shift for roughly 4 month, 6am-2pm.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Conducts in-process and finished product testing including: vitamin analysis, protein analysis, mineral analysis, total solids determination, Iodide and chloride testing, vitamin C testing, choline determination, fatty acid profiles by Gas Chromatography.
Performs Standardization for test and check can (preparation, sterilization and evaluation of test and check can), KOH, potassium citrate, citric acid and final water calculations and physical tests such as pH, viscosity, grain color, sensory evaluation.
Observes all safety rules and regulations. Reports incidents, near miss chemical spills in the proper manner to management.
EDUCATION
High school diploma (or equivalent) plus 1 year of college science and college mathematics (algebra, geometry, trigonometry or calculus), plus 2 years of related work or equivalent laboratory or plant experience, or a Bachelor’s degree in science or arts.
BACKGROUND
Knowledge of applicable regulatory standards and requirements for infant formula and nutritionals.
Ability to follow verbal instructions, recognize signs, follow written directions, prepare simple reports, read and record gauge and display readings and use their knowledge of chemistry acquired through formal education with moderate assistance from supervisor. Mathematics knowledge would include addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, decimals, fractions, proportions, and basic keyboard skills, computer skills and statistical comprehension is desirable. Physical requirements for lifting and pushing 20-25 lbs. in addition to normal laboratory work.
The ability to effectively communicate with other chemists, operators, and management with varying levels of education and experience. Also recognizing the sometimes conflicting roles of manufacturing and quality assurance, and the ability to maintain clear priorities, and stay in compliance at all times.
This position requires a high level of flexibility, adaptability and personal accountability due to the type and timing of the work involved.
EDUCATION
High school diploma (or equivalent) plus 1 year of college chemistry with appropriate labs and 1 year of college mathematics (algebra, geometry, trigonometry or calculus), plus 6 years of related work or equivalent plant experience, with at least 3 years of laboratory experience at a Ross Products facility.

Technical Associates Degree plus 1 year of college chemistry with appropriate labs and 1 year of college mathematics (algebra, geometry, trigonometry or calculus), plus 4 years of related work or equivalent plant experience, with at least 3 years of laboratory experience at a Abbott facility.

B.S. or B.A. Degree with at least a physical science minor, with at least 2 years of laboratory experience at an Abbott facility.
