The Global Analytical and Food Safety Microbiology Department within Abbott Nutrition Research and Development is responsible for using scientific techniques in the microbiological analysis of raw ingredients, R&D finished products, environmental samples, commercial production technical support, method validation, production system validations, specifications recommendations, and other microbiological technical support.
The Assistant II Microbiology candidate is responsible for applying quality laboratory technique the analysis of samples submitted for routine testing including ingredients, in-process samples, finished products, and environmental monitoring samples. Additionally, support is provided to commercial production when necessary to support system validation and requested projects.
The typical workload will include activities such as lab cleaning, media preparation, plate counts, and genetic identifications and comparisons.

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in a life science discipline is required
Background:
The ideal candidate will have one to five years’ experience after completing a bachelor’s degree. Consideration may be given to less years of experience post-degree if experience is gained through internship or assignments in a related field. At this level an individual will demonstrate a basic understanding of scientific principles corresponding with an undergraduate degree level, gained through academic training or practical experience.
This position routinely communicates with laboratory co-workers and customers. Interpersonal relations skills are important. Problem solving skills are desirable for investigating laboratory errors in procedure performance. Ability to manage time efficiently is critical. Clear communications while working with co-workers, a high degree of motivation, and attention to detail is expected.
Accountability / Scope/Budget:
This position will be accountable to the laboratory management and department management for outcomes relative to assignments.
