The Material Control area has primary responsibility for distribution of finished product, production scheduling, procurement, receiving and storage of raw materials and finished product as well as reporting, accuracy and timeliness of inventory records for raw materials, in process, finished goods and stockroom inventories.
The Planner will be responsible for planning and procuring all raw materials required for the manufacturing operation. Analysis of inventory levels and inventory status is required. Traffic activities, expediting and interface with both Division Purchasing and Logistics, vendors and carriers are part of the daily routine. Utilize AMAPS to plan raw material inventory levels, monitor production schedule changes, and outstanding orders. It is the responsibility of the Coordinator to evaluate the inventory and place orders, utilizing lead times and service history with the vendors in controlling up to $20MM of on-hand inventory.
Communicate with the vendor as the primary Abbott contact in the following manner: Placing purchase orders which is done by utilizing the AMAPS systems and communicating this with the vendors. Expediting orders that are either late or are needed earlier due to schedule changes.
Work with the vendors to alleviate chronic delivery or quality problems through both written and verbal communications.
Plan and monitor $7MM of WIP inventory to ensure production schedules are met. Manage heat treatment raw material commodities to ensure production schedules are met. Daily monitoring of bulk ingredient shipments and storage. Act as liaison between the plant and the vendor to coordinate any returns of rejected material to the vendors. Act as the liaison between the other departments within the plant to coordinate any quality issues that need to be resolved in an emergency. Monitor all raw materials testing to ensure that all commodities are released to meet the production schedule.
Maintain the general stores requisition program in coordinating the flow of materials for interplant transfers, pilot plant needs and return to vendors. Monitor expiration dates for over 250 raw materials to minimize destruct costs.
High School Diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s Degree in Production & Operations Management, Finance or General Business preferred. General business knowledge of 2-5 years with an emphasis on purchasing functions such as vendor relations, purchase order preparation and invoicing.
Excellent written and oral communication skills are mandatory. Must possess the ability to deal with challenging situations as they arise. Must be results oriented with the ability to relate effectively and professionally with others at all levels. An emphasis must be placed on the ability to make quick, sound judgments and to have excellent problem solving techniques. Must have a thorough understanding of manufacturing processes (from raw ingredients and materials to the finished product). The Sr. Inventory Planning Coordinator must also have a good understanding of sound accounting principles, inventory control procedures and paperwork flow necessary to be able to function responsibly in this position. The Sr. Inventory Planning Coordinator functions as an agent of the corporation. MRP experience preferred. MS Office skills required. Additional knowledge may also be gained through 2-3 years of prior experience in Manufacturing and Material Control. The Sr. Inventory Planning Coordinator must possess strong analytical and problem solving skills; they must quickly and accurately interpret inventory positions. Should shortages occur due to schedule changes or an interruption in the flow of raw material receipts, the Planner must act quickly to remedy the situation. Responsible for determining the proper order quantities and needed receipt dates. This is accomplished through the use of the inventory planning system and continual interaction with the Plant Scheduler and the vendors involved. Must be able to react quickly on production line downtime due to various reasons and work with all departments involved to get line running as quickly as possible (e.g. material shortage, product put on hold, mechanical failure, etc.)
