Job Description:

Aberdeen Standard Investments (ASI) has an immediate vacancy for an Analyst within the Investment Control Americas team in our Philadelphia office.  The Investment Control team undertakes risk-based reviews and checks in key areas such as Investment Restrictions Control and Investment Execution Oversight.

Role Purpose:

The purpose of this role is to provide day to day team support and oversight to the business

  • Liaison with Portfolio Managers, Fund Governors, and Client Directors to define mandate restrictions, including participation in annual reviews.
  • Participation in real time pre and post-trade guideline monitoring utilizing our investment management system, Charles River.
  • Analyzing monitoring results with team and resolving issues, including identifying appropriate action and resolution.
  • Oversight and maintenance of Charles River coding of Investment Restrictions
  • Participation in carrying out timely and accurate best execution and transaction monitoring reviews, including running reports, performing data analysis, and raising queries with the business as appropriate.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the Investment Restriction Oversight and Investment Execution Oversight Program
  • Act as first point of contact and SME for issues identified and appropriate communication of issues identified.
  • Assist with preparing information as required by the business on areas covered by the team. Collating information and responses to queries for the team, other departments within the business, clients, auditors, regulators and other third parties as appropriate.

Key Outcomes / Responsibilities:

  • Provide assurance over the consistency and compliance with process and restrictions of the investment process and risk taking
  • Identify, address and raise any issues as appropriate
  • Manage workload and prioritize work effectively and efficiently, within such reasonable deadlines as may be set by his/her supervisor.
  • Provide thought leadership and support in implementing risk measurement and management tools
  • Provide appropriate input into the development of the functions’ key processes and procedures.
  • Provide advice and support to key partners, including the assessment of the efficiency of and adherence to investment processes.
  • Build the profile and reputation of ASI internally and externally as specialists in the areas of investment oversight, risk management and the application of standard methodology in these areas.
  • Act as a ‘trusted voice’ within ASI on investment governance and promote a ‘risk aware’ culture.

QUALIFICATIONS and EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • BA/BS required
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to plan ahead and manage time and resources
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Keen attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to problem solve and take initiative
  • Ability to work well within a team environment
  • Experience with and knowledge of the principles and practices associated with the securities industry and the applicable regulatory requirements
  • Charles River experience a plus
  • Compliance System Coding experience a plus
  • Guideline Monitoring and/or Best Execution Testing experience a plus
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel
  • Strong product knowledge (Fixed Income, Equity)
  • Ability to relate to employees at all levels

CONDITIONS OF WORK: 

  • 0-10 hours of overtime required per week.
  • May require occasional early morning calls required to speak with colleagues in overseas offices
