The School Program located in Poughkeepsie, NY is now accepting applications for a Behavioral Support Specialist.  This program serves children with developmental disabilities ages 5-21.  Under the direct supervision of the Behavioral Support Supervisor, the specialist will provide the appropriate level of behavioral supports, student supervision and training to ensure and protect student health and safety.  The Behavioral Support Specialist assists in the implementation of positive behavioral interventions, supports and services.  Behavior intervention is aimed at modifying negative behaviors through treatment plans, such as interventions and will often rely on families, schools or other support systems to assist with monitoring, implementation and adjustment.

The Behavioral Support Specialist provides behavioral support for students in the classroom to increase student independence through age appropriate, functional means.  This is an entry level position, ideal for someone who has worked with children or adults with special needs, and who is interested in furthering their career in the area of behavior management, education or psychology.

This is a full time, benefits eligible position.  Hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00am-3:00pm; 48 weeks per year.

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Experience working with children and/or people with disabilities required
  • TCI Certification a plus. Ability to obtain this certification required. (Training provided)
  • Clean driver’s license that is deemed “acceptable” by our insurance carrier required
  • Background check by NYS OPWDD required.
