Abilities First, Inc., a CQL accredited organization, has been making a difference in the lives of people with developmental disabilities for over fifty years.  Starting out as The Little Red School House in 1962, Abilities First, Inc. has evolved into the Hudson Valley’s premiere provider of support services for individuals with developmental disabilities.  We offer a wide variety of services including school and preschool programs, day habilitation, residential habilitation, community habilitation, service coordination and employment services.

The Maintenance Assistant is responsible for the upkeep of Abilities First, Inc. and client properties by performing preventive maintenance, repairs, and regular inspections.  Responsibilities of this position include:

• Diagnosing issues and completing repairs that may include but are not limited to plumbing, electrical, building/structural, landscaping and snow removal.
• Respond to work orders in a timely manner.
• Handle any and all building related emergencies such as no heat, no electric and floods.
• Working with sub-contractors and agency personnel to ensure maintenance of various locations, moving offices, files and residences/programs.

Full time, Monday through Friday 7 AM - 3:30 PM, plus rotating as on call to respond to emergency situations.

Requirements

• Past experience in all phases of construction and maintenance is preferred.
• Ability to walk, climb ladders, and lift fifty pounds is required.
• Ability to operate motor vehicles, machinery, and power and hand tools required.
• Clean NYS driver’s license (for a minimum of 3 years) that is deemed “acceptable” by our insurance carrier.
