What does a Business Operations Manager, Education do at companies like ACCEL SCHOOLS?

The Business Operations Manager is responsible for the leadership and overall financial management of multiple educational sites including but not limited to: compliance, revenue, budgets, and strategic operational improvements.  Lead and manage functional areas to improve internal processes and maximize efficiencies for multiple centers/programs.   Requires in-depth experience working with multiple state and/or federal funding grants and process improvement.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Financial Management & Compliance
    • Work with Company leadership to effectively monitor monthly budgets.
    • Ensure financial health of centers including Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, State Assistance, and payroll.
    • Directly oversee the billing of the revenue streams
    • Work closely with department heads to analyze and strategically improve internal processes to maximize efficiency and deliver timely results
    • Review all financial and reimbursement reports related to company bonus calculations
    • Ensure compliance with the Minimum Licensing Requirements conforming to health, safety, and licensing regulations.
  • Process Improvement
    • Identify necessary workflows related to software implementation to ensure streamlining and optimization of applicable information across all departments
    • Lead company utilization of automated systems to improve processes, revenues and workflows.
    • Effective lead process improvement groups
    • Support the performance improvement process using a data-driven focus that sets priorities to align with the company’s strategic plan. Prepare monthly reports to measure improvements.
    • Develop a metric’s based review process for revenue, enrollments and ROI.
    • Coordinate the distribution and analyzation process
  • Staffing
    • Directly supervise finance and operation functions
  • Facilities and Transportation
    • Ensure a healthy, safe, clean and appropriate environment that complies with local, state, and federal law and are sate and appropriate for the children enrolled.
    • Ensure that the centers are clean and safe environments for staff and students
    • Assist in long term capital budgeting.
    • Follow Company procedures for the repair and maintenance of the facility.
  • Community Relations
    • Develop the leadership capacity and skill sets of the management team.
    • Monitor the training (including state training requirements) and orientation of all staff and completes orientation and training with leadership staff.
    • Conduct regular meetings with direct reports to include monthly Observation Visits and goal setting.
    • Develop relationships with families through scheduled meetings and by being visible at centers on a regular, recurring basis.
    • Other duties as assigned.

Skills Required

  • Experience in leading an organizational change
  • Knowledge of and ability to work in any of the roles within the program.
  • Proactive and team-oriented attitude to create a successful team environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication ability with parents and team members.
  • Ability to create a professional, productive, and positive environment for employees, parents, and children.
  • Strong communication skills that reflect professionalism and tact at all times.
  • Enforce all policies and procedures documented in the employee handbook, job description, and any other information verbally instructed by the National Director.


  • Minimum of seven years’ management and leadership experience in a fast-paced environment
  • Five years’ experience in process improvement
  • Experience with billing and financial management software
  • Experience as project leader
  • Advanced experience with Excel, and MS software
  • Seven years’ experience leading and implementing changes in an organization
  • Seven years’ experience working with government grants
  • Strong working knowledge of federal, state & local laws relating to licensing.
  • Bachelor’s degree business or related field. Master’s degree a plus
  • Ability to lift in excess of twenty (20) lbs.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills that reflect professionalism and tact at all times.
  • Ability to pass state and federal background checks.
