Job Description
In this role you will:
· Engage in helping students with disabilities and their families advocate for themselves within their local school system or setting.
· Incorporate helping families develop a service team as it relates to the education of the client; developing support groups and trainings based on individual needs
· Monitor services and empathize with the needs of the families we serve.
· Need an understanding of NYS Education Law and be able to stay current on Educational Law and Practices, as well as having the capability of working autonomously, while also being able to present our services and advocacy information to groups of parents and professionals.
The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, able to multi-task and have excellent organizational, communication, and computer skills. Bi-lingual (Spanish) preferred. Field experience is a plus.
This position requires good teaching and writing skills.
Requirements include the ability to advocate for the needs of others, the ability to problem solve, the ability to teach life skills and document progress. Also required is the flexibility to drive to and attend client meetings as well as mandatory agency trainings.
Previous experience working with the Learning Disabled and Behavioral Populations is a plus!
