ACCO Brands is seeking a Payroll and HR Specialist to join our HR team. This position is located in our corporate headquarters in Lake Zurich, IL.

As a member of the Human Resources team, the Payroll and HR Specialist will administer Canadian payroll, group benefits, defined benefit pension and defined contribution retirement plans, and will maintain HR Shared Service activities for the ACCO Brands Canadian and US businesses. This role is the first point of contact for current and former employees who have questions regarding payroll, compensation and employee benefits. The incumbent in this role works cross-functionally within the business unit as well as with multiple third-party vendors.  Key responsibilities of the role include the following:

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Process Canadian bi-weekly non-union and weekly union payroll; oversee payroll year-end activities.
• Review Canadian payroll for compliance with all government regulations and company policies.
• Research and resolve all payroll inquiries received internally or from 3rd party vendors.
• Reconcile payroll-related accounts, and monitor and investigate reports that are run after payroll is processed to ensure that deductions are properly calculated and transmitted.
• Administer Canadian defined benefit pension, defined contribution retirement, and group benefit plans in compliance with government regulations and plan requirements, including all plan reporting, employee enrollment, required notices to plan participants, plan beneficiary entitlements, and making timely and accurate payments to vendors or plan participants.
• Research and resolve all plan inquiries received internally or from 3rd party vendors.
• Reconcile benefit related accounts to ensure proper benefit calculations and transmission internal to ACCO Brands and to the 3rd party vendors.
• Process the funding for defined contribution, defined benefit and 401k accounts.
• Facilitate leave and disability claims processing.
• Support employees transitioning into retirement, ensuring timely retirement payment initiation.
• Interact with actuary, retirement trustees, and internal ACCO Brands departments, such as finance or corporate HR, as required, to maintain retirement and group benefit plan compliance.
• Process all US and Canadian HR Shared Services invoicing and related reporting.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree preferred
• Minimum 3+ years U.S. Payroll experience required, with two years processing Canadian payroll and benefits
• Experience utilizing a third-party payroll provider required, preferably with Ceridian Dayforce
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Excel required
• Attention to detail with a strong emphasis on accuracy and quality, and the ability to meet strict deadlines are critical to being successful in this position
• Applicant should possess comprehensive knowledge of HR and payroll laws, taxes and garnishment rules by state/province
• Excellent customer service skills
