We are looking for a dynamic Specialist in Inclusive Market systems approaches, with excellent analytical, writing and communication skills to join the Market and Food Systems team within ACDI/VOCA’s Technical Learning and Application Department. This person will promote and provide technical guidance on ACDI/VOCA’s inclusive market systems approach to private sector and agriculture development. The approach emphasizes designing for deep-rooted change in the underlying systems that drive market outcomes; facilitation-based, stakeholder-led approaches to implementation, and custom MEL and management systems to enhance learning and adaptation. The Market Systems Specialist will report to Senior Technical Director, Market Systems.
Implementation of Inclusive Market Systems Development Approach: Ensure technical quality and provide support to project teams. Provide ongoing, responsive technical support and guidance to projects to enhance quality application of ACDI/VOCA’s inclusive market systems approach. Lead and/or oversee discrete and ongoing technical services collaboratively with project teams, including initial startup staff trainings, conducting end market, market systems and value chain analyses, designing project strategies and facilitation activities, providing ongoing mentoring and technical guidance, annual work planning, and informing appropriate monitoring, evaluation and learning approaches. Build capacity of project teams to implement ACDI/VOCA’s inclusive market systems approach.
New Business: Provide technical guidance and leadership to new business teams, develop proposal content. Serve as technical or contributing writer or subject matter expert. Conduct desk and field market systems research and competition analyses. Support proposal management activities such as: identifying key personnel, overseeing external consultants, collaborating with partner organizations, and contributing to management plans.
Internal Collaboration, Learning, and Tool/Resource Development: Promote and cultivate opportunities for learning and collaboration across the organization and with field offices. Provide leadership in promoting and enhancing ACDI/VOCA’s inclusive market systems approach. Organize and facilitate working groups and/or Communities of Practice around relevant technical topics. Develop tools, training curricula and job aids. Gather information and learning from field offices and share across the organization.
External Outreach: Engage with donors, implementers, and other stakeholders to document, share, promote, and exchange learning, best practice, and experience from ACDI/VOCA’s portfolio. Participate in networking events, conferences and donor outreach events. Engage in technically relevant communities of practice and/or working groups. Identify partners and build effective professional partnerships to help ACDI/VOCA achieve its goals. Perform other duties as required.
Minimum qualifications include a Minimum of 5-7 years of relevant experience, including overseas work, in international development or related field. Master’s degree or equivalent in international development, agriculture, business, finance, economics or other related field. Demonstrated experience and technical knowledge in market systems development related work, such as leading market systems analyses and studies, facilitating stakeholder consultation sessions, strategy development, developing/managing private sector partnerships, contributing to relevant learning or M&E studies, etc. Demonstrated familiarity with current trends in systems thinking as applied to market development – such as designing for systemic change, complexity-aware monitoring, analytical tools or consultation processes for getting to root causes, etc. Experience with quantitative and qualitative research methods and analysis, market systems resilience, and inclusive business models desired. Excellent writing and communication skills in English for writing proposals, reports, and papers. Strong interpersonal and team skills, with ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures. Fluency in French or Spanish preferred. International travel required (approximately 25%).
