POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists with the development and implementation of genomic counseling practices for the NYCKidSeq research program
  • Facilitates genetic testing process, including thorough informed consent visit and return of results sessions
  • Counsels patients and family members by providing information, education, or reassurance regarding genetic risks and inherited conditions
  • Provides standard recommendations for screening and follow-up actions based on patient’s genomic results
  • Communicates genetic test results, risk estimates, and standard recommendations to patient
  • Documents other patient interactions as appropriate
  • Collaborates and coordinates patient care with other disciplines and medical specialties
  • Responds to relevant inquiries from patients, staff and physicians
  • Collaborates with research team and other health care professionals to establish innovative genetic counseling communication and education practices
  • Assist with the development of genomic testing outcomes measures
  • Assists with development and revision of educational materials
  • Seeks out and presents educational activities to patients, families, trainees, multidisciplinary groups within Montefiore/Einstein, and on the local, state or national level
  • Keeps abreast of developments in genetics and genomics
  • Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in Genetic Counseling or Human Genetics from a college or university program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Genetic Counseling (ACGC) or a Master’s degree in clinical or medical genetics prior to the establishment of the ACGC
  • Board certified or board-eligible Genetic Counselor; board certification is required according to the availability of the certification exam
  • 2+ years of experience in genetics highly preferred
  • Bi- or multi-lingual preferred, including Spanish.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, problem solving, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work well in a team setting and independently is essential

Founded in 1955, the Albert Einstein College of Medicine (Einstein) is one of the nation’s premier institutions for medical education, basic research and clinical investigation. A full-time faculty of some 2,000 conducts research, teaches, and delivers health care in every major biomedical specialty. The college has some 730 medical students, 193 Ph.D. students, 106 MD/Ph.D. students and 275 postdoctoral fellows.

The pediatric Genetic Counselor will join our extraordinary team.
