The Buyer will be responsible for planning and procuring components and raw materials which support MRP requirements based on the production schedules and customer requirements. This role requires analysis of MRP requirements, negotiation with suppliers, PO placement, and follow up of delivery dates. Individual will be responsible for processing returned material and resolving payment issues as well as resolving supplier performance problems. Individual will be accountable for material inventory levels of the parts they plan/procure. Ensure these activities are completed on time and in accordance with company policies and departmental guidelines.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Convert MRP requirements to purchase orders.

• Create and manage purchase orders and request for quotes to include technical documents, pricing, delivery, and key milestones to ensure on-time receipt of materials for manufacturing operations.

• Ability to read and understand technical specifications.

• Review any drawing exceptions with engineering team.

• Expedite material as required.

• Analyze, adjust, and optimize product and component inventory levels to coincide with manufacturing demand and lead time changes.

• Maintain the integrity of MRP parameters (lot/order size, lead time, and safety stock).

• Coordinate quality issues with suppliers as required and effectively manage returns to supplier.

• Work closely with manufacturing, shipping/receiving, and project management personnel to avoid any adverse production impact from supplier delivery delays.

• Other duties as assigned.

• Occasional nights and/or weekends may be required, depending on the needs of the business.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and organizational skills.

• Excellent negotiating, planning, time management, written and verbal communications skills.

• Knowledge of metallurgical specifications; experience in procurement of metals; steel highly desirable.

• Must be able to make independent decisions/judgments regarding analysis of requirements, analysis of quotes, negotiation and source selection.

• Must be able to read and understand drawings and technical specifications.

• Advanced knowledge of Excel preferred.

• Must be able to successfully pass a background check.

Education and Experience

• Minimum of 5 years relevant work experience in supply chain planning and procurement.

• Prior SAP “by-design” or similar MRP planning system experience preferred.

• Certification (APICS and/or NAPM) preferred.

• Metal/Steel fabrication background strongly preferred
