The Role: Release Manager

As a Release Manager (ERM), you will be responsible for protecting and managing the movement of releases through the build, test, and production environments. The RM ensures there’s a proper structure in place to allow the company to scale efficiently. The RM needs to interface and communicate with test managers, development managers, IT operations, and the PMO on a daily basis. Equally, the RM must have the confidence to manage up and provide reporting as well as meeting updates to senior IT management and line of business.

What You Will Do:

• Typical responsibilities of a Release Manager include:
• Planning release windows and the overall release lifecycle
• Managing risks that may affect release scope
• Communicate all key project plans, commitments, and changes including requirements
• Measure and monitor progress
• Manage relationships and coordinate projects between different teams
• Release planning: In this stage, release managers will design release guidelines that should be implemented across the company.
• Configuring releases: Release managers will oversee the various aspects of a project before it is due to be deployed, ensuring all teams are on track and meeting the agreed guidelines.
• Quality Checks: The quality of the release needs to be reviewed before a project is officially launched. The Release Manager is in charge of ensuring Quality Assurance teams know the guidelines of the project and will check that these standards are met.
• Deployment: After being quality checked, the project is ready to be deployed. The Release Manager is still responsible for ensuring a project is rolled out smoothly and efficiently. 
• Develop common strategies for release governance across multiple departments.
• Establish consistent release management processes.
• Facilitate cross-department coordination of release management functions.
• Track an enterprise-wide release calendar.
• Inform senior management of enterprise-wide exposure to release risk and effectively mitigate it.
• Measure release cadence and effectiveness using common metrics across the entire software portfolio.
• Create common standards and formats for release playbooks and work with production control to standardize release decision-making.
• Define common mechanisms for rollback and standards for capturing release-related performance indicators.
• Forecast demand for release resources and identify opportunities for greater efficiency across the enterprise.

What you will need:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in computer science or a related discipline
• 10+ years of leadership or solution development experience
• Strong verbal, presentation and written communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences
• Proven experience in IT infrastructure strategic planning and development, project management, and policy development
• Demonstrated ability to apply IT in solving business problems.
• Experience leading large-scale initiatives across multiple applications
