The Manager of Communications works closely with the CEO, CFO, business unit heads and Investor Relations Manager, and in tandem with all departments of BlueHub Capital, to develop and implement communications and marketing strategies that support new BlueHub initiatives, drive ambitious growth goals of existing businesses, and strengthen BlueHub’s participation in regional and national conversations about community and economic development, investment, and finance.
The Manager of Communications plays a key role in telling the BlueHub story to the organization’s external constituents, including investors and donors, partner organizations, potential and current clients, board members, and the communities served by the organization. S/he works across the organization, supporting marketing and communications outreach activities for all internal business units, and is responsible for preparing communication materials that are accurate, timely, and compelling. The Manager of Communications maintains the website; manages content strategy—including drafting press releases, announcements, and marketing collateral; assists in reporting to investors and donors; coordinates social and digital media activities (including e-newsletter, Facebook, Twitter, etc.); and provides administrative support as needed to support the CEO and the organization’s overall communications goals.
The successful Manager of Communications is an entrepreneurial self-starter who enjoys working collaboratively and has a passion for the mission to build healthy communities where low-income people live and work. This role reports to the CFO and is a full-time position located in Boston, MA.
Responsibilities
Communications and marketing strategy: Work with CEO, the Investor Relations Manager and BlueHub’s business units to conceive, design, and implement high-impact communications and marketing strategies, across earned, owned, shared, and paid channels, in support of BlueHub business, programmatic, and policy goals. Help develop and track metrics for assessing impact of communications and marketing activities.
Story-mining and content development: Develop high-quality content (including news stories, social media and web posts, op-eds, annual reports, information packets, newsletters, collateral for meetings and speaking engagements, and other materials) that tell the BlueHub story in compelling, accessible ways, tailored for various audiences. Interview clients and borrowers to identify key stories and potential speakers for annual reports, case studies, marketing presentations, and media outreach. Maintain repository of case studies, client and borrower stories, and other content so that it is readily accessible.
Media relations: Cultivate relationships with journalists; respond to media inquiries; engage in proactive media outreach in order to secure coverage of BlueHub initiatives and priorities; help prepare BlueHub spokespeople for media interviews; maintain database of media contacts; and track media coverage.
Social and digital media: Working with web vendor, maintain and update BlueHub website. Working with Investor Relations Manager and others, develop strategy for maximizing impact of BlueHub’s social media channels, and manage those channels on a day-to-day basis.
Support for events, public engagements, and board meetings: Support members of BlueHub’s leadership at conferences, events, and other public engagements by conducting research, preparing talking points and briefing books, and staffing events as needed. Coordinate the organization’s strategic giving and related partnerships. Position the organization for a leadership role in the CDFI industry by organizing and arranging for BlueHub’s participation in local and national conferences, supporting national leadership work, publishing best practices and write-ups on new initiatives.
Investor reporting: Working with the Investor Relations Manager, oversee production and distribution of accurate, timely and powerful reporting to investors, potential investors, donors and other constituents. This includes quarterly, semi-annual and annual reports; and investor-specific reporting as required.
Additional responsibilities: Actively participate in BlueHub staff, Loan Fund staff, and SUN staff meetings as appropriate; represent BlueHub Capital in public meetings and on working groups. Support the completion of funding applications through writing and proofreading. Manage BlueHub’s external communications and marketing consultants, such as public relations firms, web vendors, and design agencies. Support internal communications, helping to ensure that BlueHub staff have line of sight to activities and developments across the organization. Handle related responsibilities as needed to help BlueHub achieve its communications and marketing goals.
