Description

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

 

The Safety Specialist will be responsible for providing administration and monitoring of safety training programs company-wide in order for Chappell Supply & Equipment, the (‘Company”) to accomplish safety goals and objectives.  The Safety Specialist will also serve as a safety and compliance resource for management and respond to requests for information and assistance of the Company’s safety and compliance program.  

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitor and administer a company-wide safety program.
  • Partner with Managers on all areas of safety to reduce accident and incident rates.
  • Conduct training classes utilizing various mediums.
  • Develop safety tools, which include providing topics for weekly safety meetings, reporting solutions for accident prevention, etc.
  • Conduct safety inspections to identify unsafe conditions, and recommend safeguards and solutions
  • Administer collection of Incident Reports, Accident, Reports and Near-Miss reports.
  • Coordinate required safety evacuation drills for fire or earthquake, and safety drills for tornados.
  • Monitor and administer employee return to work programs.

Qualifications


QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health, or Associate’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health and 2 -4 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred; Certified Safety Professional is preferred. 
  • Knowledge of state, federal and occupational safety and health regulations to ensure the Company is in compliance. 
  • Must be self-directed and work well in a team environment.
  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills in order to deal with all levels of individuals. 
  • Must be a strategic thinker to understand long-term safety strategies.
  • Must possess a high energy level and the skills to influence others to achieve results. 
  • Must be patient and possess excellent listening skills. 
  • Must be diplomatic and possess strong problem solving skills.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred, but not required.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

  • Ability to understand opposing points of view on highly complex issues and to negotiate and integrate different viewpoints.
  • Able to see and read computer monitors and be able to detect specific noises, proper equipment operation and understand what others are saying.
  • Ability to compose letters, outlines memoranda, and basic reports and/or to orally communicate technical information.
  • Be able to stand and move about regularly.
  • Be able to frequently move parts and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Be able to use upper extremities to frequently press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or upward.
  • Ascending or descending ladders to move merchandise
  • Be able to use upper extremities to frequently exert force in order to draw, drag, haul, or tug objects in a sustained motion.
  • Frequently bend body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.
  • Be able to coordinate movement of the fingers and hands to grasp, move equipment and have the adequate dexterity and strength to complete tasks.
  • Able to compute, analyze and interpret numerical data for reporting purposes.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide and record, balance and check results for accuracy.
